چکیده

The problem of kink stability of isothermal spherical self-similar flow in newtonian gravity is revisited. Using distribution theory we first develop a general formula of perturbations, linear or non-linear, which consists of three sets of differential equations, one in each side of the sonic line and the other along it. By solving the equations along the sonic line we find explicitly the spectrum, k, of the perturbations, whereby we obtain the stability criterion for the self-similar solutions. When the solutions are smoothly across the sonic line, our results reduce to those of Ori and Piran. To show such obtained perturbations can be matched to the ones in the regions outside the sonic line, we study the linear perturbations in the external region of the sonic line E-mail: Anzhong [email protected] E-mail: Yumei [email protected]; [email protected]

Parametric Study of Equilibrium and Stability Analysis of HT-6M Tokamak in the Presence of Flow

It is experimentally observed that tokamak plasmas exhibits macroscopic flow in the toroidal and poloidal directions. Both the flow can considerably change the equilibrium parameters of tokamak. Equilibrium of HT-6M is revisited as a case study and its equilibrium parameters are simulated in the presence of toroidal and poloidal flows with the FLOW Code developed by L. Guazzotto at that Univers...

Stability criterion for self-similar solutions with a scalar field and those with a stiff fluid in general relativity

A stability criterion is derived in general relativity for self-similar solutions with a scalar field and those with a stiff fluid, which is a perfect fluid with the equation of state P = ρ. A wide class of self-similar solutions turn out to be unstable against kink mode perturbation. According to the criterion, the Evans-Coleman stiff-fluid solution is unstable and cannot be a critical solutio...

A General Class of Self-similar Self-gravitating Fluids

I present a general classification of self-similar solutions to the equations of gravitational hydrodynamics that contain many previous results as special cases. For cold flows with spherical symmetry, the solution space can be classified into several regions of behavior similar to the Bondi solutions for steady flow. A full description of these solution is possible, which serves as the asympto...

Envelope Expansion with Core Collapse. I. Spherical Isothermal Similarity Solutions

We investigate self-similar dynamical processes in an isothermal self-gravitational fluid with spherical symmetry. In reference to earlier complementary solution results of Larson, Penston, Shu, Hunter and Whitworth & Summers, we further explore the ‘semi-complete solution space’ from an initial instant t→ 0 to a final stage t→ +∞. These similarity solutions can describe and accommodate physica...

The effects of sheared toroidal rotation on stability limits in tokamak plasmas

Sheared toroidal rotation is found to increase the ideal external kink stability limit, thought to be the ultimate performance limit in fusion tokamaks. However, at rotation speeds approaching a significant fraction of the Alfvén speed, the toroidal rotation shear drives a Kelvin–Helmholtz-like global plasma instability. Optimizing the rotation profile to maximize the pressure before encounteri...
